Why Crate Train?

"Latte', my daughter's Australian Shepherd dog resting from her playtime in her open crate."
Crate training is something that, in my view, is vital to raising a healthy puppy. Confinement is essential to training your puppy and keeping him and your belongings safe. A crate can be a place of safety and security for a dog and peace of mind for his humans.....
My service dog Yuni loves her crate so much that she spends most of the day in it even though the door to her crate is rarely closed. She knows that her crate is the place where food is served and that nothing bad or scary ever happens to her there. Reasons for crate training are many but the most pressing reasons for a puppy owner to do this are that a puppy in his crate cannot pee on the carpet, chew on the furniture, eat dangerous house plants or electrical cords. Confinement is an essential aspect of house training. Properly used, the crate is a very friendly place for a puppy, it helps her humans to be more calm and relaxed which helps a puppy to be as happy as she can be.
